What is the difference between Azure Active Directory and Microsoft Entra ID?
Microsoft Entra ID is the new name for Azure Active Directory — Microsoft rebranded the service in 2023 as part of the broader Microsoft Entra identity and access management product family. The service capabilities remain the same, with additional features being added under the Entra umbrella.
Do we need Entra ID if we already have on-premises Active Directory?
Yes. Entra ID extends your on-premises AD identity to the cloud — enabling SSO and conditional access for Microsoft 365, SaaS applications, and cloud workloads. Without Entra ID, users cannot benefit from cloud identity features like MFA enforcement, conditional access, and seamless SSO across cloud services.
What is Conditional Access and why is it important?
Conditional Access is a policy engine in Entra ID that evaluates sign-in conditions — user identity, device compliance, location, application, and risk level — before granting access to resources. It enables Zero Trust access controls that require verified identity and compliant devices, significantly reducing the risk of account compromise.
How does Privileged Identity Management work?
